NuoDB Announces Hybrid Transaction And Analytical Processing Capabilities In New Swifts Release 2.1
New release will offer businesses real time insight into billions of mobile and other operational transactions
Cambridge, Massachusetts and Santa Clara, California, USA – November 4, 2014 – NuoDB, the leader in webscale distributed database technology, today announced the general availability of NuoDB Swifts Release 2.1 at the Cloud Expo West event, Booth 615, Santa Clara Convention Center. Among numerous features contained in the release, NuoDB announced new, low-latency Hybrid Transaction/Analytical Processing (HTAP) capabilities.
Business leaders have for many years been seeking for better ways to get insights into their transactional data. In order to make their business operations more agile and intelligent they increasingly require a HTAP system that allows them to monitor and optimize their business processes in real-time. The new NuoDB release provides a foundation for companies to easily build high-performance, low-latency applications capable of capturing these analytic insights.
HTAP in NuoDB Swifts Release
HTAP is a term coined by the leading technology research firm, to describe the ability of a single database capable of performing both online transaction processing and real-time operational intelligence processing.
Traditional databases were not designed to efficiently handle hybrid transaction and analytical workloads. As a result, transactional data has to be copied into a separate database for analytics using various data integration tools and techniques. This approach is time-consuming, complex, and expensive, and often doesn’t meet the real-time or quasi real-time reporting and analytics requirements of the organization.
In contrast, NuoDB Swifts Release 2.1 is based on a distributed architecture, which makes it possible to dedicate specific transactional elements of the database to carry out specific functions. For instance, a single database can be scaled out across smaller machine hosts for typical operational access patterns. One or more hosts can be dedicated to running analytical queries. The application is still viewing a single, logical database that is always consistent across all the hosts but with appropriate resources dedicated to specific tasks.
