It's clear that in the evolution of database storage we are at an inflection point. Managing large volumes of data, highly volatile data, or high velocity data is both complex and a business necessity. NuoDB is a new approach with a familiar interface. Whereas other solutions require you to trade-off features like ACID transactions, SQL and the relational data model, and joins while at the same time increasing your operational load, requiring application and architectural re-writes, and ultimately lock you into new single vendor products we at NuoDB have done the unimaginable. We've started from scratch, throwing out all but the top most layer of traditional RDBMS architecture - namely SQL and ACID transactions. Below that we've innovated, not just iterated or retrofitted an existing solution. Below that we've created a new manner of database management system that presumes a distributed architecture. We've studied the most successful distributed algorithms, systems, techniques - those that have had the most success in real world systems providing scalability of service without proportional costs. We've taken those concepts and recombined them into a system that supports all the features of today's most popular client/server RDBMS systems into a client/cloud system.
