Meet The Team – Intern Style!

Interns - 11

Left to Right: Lindsey, Dan, Matt, Carlos, Knox, Rachel
Center: Amy, Office Manager

Knox Anderson

Marketing

School: Boston University

Hometown: Louisville, KY

Hobbies: Competitive swimming, wakeboarding

Role at NuoDB: Marketing, operations, and analytics

Name 3 items on your Bucket List.

Knox:  Skydiving.  I also think it would be really cool to do a roadtrip and see a game at every ballpark in America.  And I’m a twin, and my twin sister and I have always said that we could easily get on Amazing Race.  So we’d get to see a whole bunch of cool stuff.  She’s super competitive and would be yelling at me all the time, and we look nothing alike – and since we’re twins, it would be great TV.

Dan Weiss

Engineering

School: UMASS Lowell (Graduate Program)

Hometown: Chelmsford, MA

Hobbies: Anything that’s a game, whether of the video or board variety (“I always win.  ALWAYS.  My friends actually refuse to play with me now.”)

Role at NuoDB: Currently focusing on Python projects

What’s the most daring thing you’ve done?

Dan: One time I went fishing with my friends one of them caught a turtle.  It snapped the line before he could bring it in, and one of my friends was like “Dan, go get it!”  Without thinking, I jumped into the water and pulled it out.  The funniest part was this lady on the beach – some random woman – ran up and started lecturing me about how it was really dangerous and could have been a snapping turtle!

Rachel Sorensen

Marketing

School: Startup Institute Boston

Hometown: Belmont, MA

Hobbies: Baking (bread and cookies), plowing through stacks and stacks of books, training for 5Ks (and possible 10Ks)

Role at NuoDB: Social Media (FacebookTwitterLinkedIn) and SEO

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

Rachel: Our big holiday celebration is on Christmas Eve (because I’m Finnish, and that’s what we do).  So all the kids dance around and wear Elf hats and sing a song that’s seven verses, and everyone joins in at the chorus.  The story is that the Elves (which really exist in Finland) come out of their hiding places and steal the Christmas dinner.  It’s really fun when you’re a little a kid, but almost more fun as an adult because all your little family members are super cute.

Matt McGrath

Accounting

School: Boston College

Hometown: Drexel Hill, PA

Hobbies: Playing trumpet, training for and running the Boston Marathon, accumulating really random talents…

Role at NuoDB: Whatever Nicole Dagesse (Accounting Manager) or John Wagner (CFO) tell him to do

What would be on the agenda for the Best Day of your Life?

Matt: Definitely several naps.  It would probably consist of a lot of napping and snack time.  Well… maybe instead of napping away the Best Day of my Life, I would get a good night’s sleep so I could fully enjoy it.  I’d eat at a lot of cool, exotic locations.  It would be warm and there would probably be some sort of swimming involved, maybe at a nice secluded pond.

Carlos Reyes

Engineering

School: Duke University

Hometown: Amherst, MA

Hobbies: Freestyle skiing, longboarding

Role at NuoDB: Producing Documentation examples for the Dev Center, bug fixing, ad hoc projects (and hopefully not breaking things in the process…)

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Carlos: I went to Chinatown and I got eel from a can… I was hoping it would be good.  It was actually pretty terrible.

Lindsey Hoyem

Marketing

School: Boston College

Hometown: Hillsborough, CA

Hobbies: Traveling and exploring new cities, snowboarding, playing with dogs

Role at NuoDB: Marketing campaigns

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Lindsey: When people crack their knuckles right in front of your face.  When I was younger, I grew up with only boys and they used to crack their knuckles in my face to annoy me.  So ever since then, it’s been not too enjoyable…
