NuoDB, Inc., a startup offering the industry’s only patented, elastically scalable Cloud Data Management System (CDMS), announced January 15, 2013 the general availability of their 21st century database, NuoDB Starlings. The event was attended by over 1,000 in-person and online attendees.
Highlights of the event included:
Presentations by Matt Aslett, Research Manager of The 451 Group; Dave Tewksbary of Dassault Systemes; Gary Morgenthaler of Morgenthaler Ventures and Barry Morris, CEO and Co-Founder of NuoDB, Inc.
A YCSB industry standard report documenting the ability of the NuoDB solution to scale to 1.7 million transactions per second on commodity hardware.
The support of 12 New Rules For A Cloud Data Management System (CDMS)
The NuoDB CDMS Challenge:
“A CDMS must offer the asynchronous, peer-to-peer attributes that are inherent to the cloud itself along with the kind of 1.7 million transactions per second performance and elastic scalability we demonstrated last week,” stated Barry Morris, CEO and Co-Founder of NuoDB, Inc.
“Matt and Gary spoke of the differences between a database “on” the cloud versus a database “of” the cloud,” continued Morris. “We hope the industry will respond to the challenge to offer the market elastically-scalable, high performance data management systems “of” the cloud.”
“We expect to see a growing debate this year about the difference between relational databases on the cloud and cloud databases designed to take advantage of and enable elastic, distributed architecture,” said Matt Aslett, research manager, data management and analytics, 451 Research. “The launch of NuoDB’s Cloud Data Management System and 12 rules for a 21st century cloud database provide a great starting point for that debate.” To watch the full length archived video coverage of the event, click here.
