NuoDB, the NewSQL leader, was first envisioned by industry-renowned database architect and innovator Jim Starkey in 2008. In 2010 he was joined by enterprise software CEO Barry Morris to launch a company that has re-defined relational database technology to tackle today’s market needs.
Fundamental to our founders’ vision was the idea of developing a database system that builds on the power of SQL to move relational technology beyond traditional monolithic databases. That old approach was designed 30 years ago and no longer serves a market that is embracing commodity datacenters and cloud computing. The result is a distributed DBMS that delivers innovations in scale-out performance, continuous availability, dynamic multi-tenancy, and active-active geo-distribution anywhere!
Proven In Production
The database industry, enterprises and developers worldwide have embraced this vision. Our software has been downloaded by more than 11,000 users and is deployed for a wide range of operational database applications. We have also won a half dozen prestigious industry awards from Gartner Cool Vendor to the Red Herring Top 100 Startups in North America. Our customers have had their database success stories documented in publications from The Wall Street Journal to ZDNet.
What drives NuoDB’s success is a team of employees and investors with deep DNA in the database industry. NuoDB is backed by Morgenthaler Ventures, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners and Longworth Venture Partners and includes a senior management team from such organizations as IONA Technologies, StreamBase Systems, Object Design and Nokia. They helped create the dominant 20th century database companies. Now they have created the leading NewSQL database in the 21st. NuoDB is headquartered in Cambridge, MA.
